A Day at the Fair

Today my parents and I took the boys down to a street festival in Covington, KY called Maifest. It's a pretty typical festival - beer, craft booths, tons of food and rides and games for younger children.

We spent about three hours battling through the crowds perusing the booths - lots of jewelry and hand made items. They even had music stages and performers stationed throughout. The crowds came from all walks of life which made for great people watching - one of my favorite things to do.

The boys had a blast. They loved running around and riding on all the rides. This was the first year that the B-Man was really old enough to ride on anything and he was overwhelmed to say the least. It was extremely touching to watch SM lead him through the bouncy house and hold his hand on the rides. He even helped him pick out "just the right prize" when they played the duck pond game. SM's really growing into a mature little man.

Here are a few photos of the boys in action:

Pay It Forward

On Thursday I was driving in to work and the rain was coming down pretty hard. As I was driving down the road I watched a mechanic dash across the street to give a woman waiting at the bus stop an umbrella.

The moment really touched me. In today's busy world I feel like that type of generosity doesn't happen often enough.

A little R&R Goes A Long Way

Thought I would share a few pictures of our trip to New York. We had a blast and really enjoyed spending some private time together. It was like getting to date my husband all over again and I am so glad we did it.

Lady Liberty Herself.

Parson's The New School for Design. Home to Project Runway!

Ray's Pizza. The best slice we had while in New York!

Times Square. Talk about complete madness on a Saturday!

Metropolitan Museum. Had tons of artists lining the sidewalks selling their works.

Beautiful Central Park Reservoir.

Mario Batali's Babbo.

My New York City Experience

Thought I'd blog about my adventures in New York this weekend. The hubs and I are here on a Mommy and Daddy only vacation.

Day 1 - Today we drove up to Dayton, OH to catch a flight to New York. Funny enough, the flight had a connection in Cincinnati. We would of flown from Cincy to begin with but it is way more expensive.

We arrived in New York around 9:45 p.m. and decided to take the Airtrain and Subway to our hotel near Times Square. First subway ride is on the E line. Our car happens to contain a gentleman who appears to be slightly insane. For 30 minutes I pretend to be asleep while he runs up and down the car yelling at the conductor, lighting cigarettes and damning the man. Everyone in the car was frozen. No one wanted to make eye contact. I have never rushed of a subway car so fast in my life.

From there we took another train to 28th Street and walked up to our hotel. By now it was around 11:00 p.m. and we are starving. The concierge (I love that word) informs us that there is a great place around the corner on 7th called Mustang Sally's. We head up the street only to be treated to a little second hand high! The man walking about 100 feet in front of us was smoking mary jane and you could not escape it.

When we got back to the room we were both exhausted and Marty hit the hay. I stayed up for a bit and finished a project that is due tomorrow and then logged on to share our adventure.

Stay Tuned. Tomorrow it's the Statue of Liberty, Times Square and dinner at Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill! Night

I Can't Believe How Nasty People Can Be

So I am having my first experience with a nasty blogger. Tonight I get home and check my email and I find this "anonymous" comment in regards to a post I did back in September:

Just stumbled onto your blog.........can't believe how stupid you are. Firstly what kind of mother feeds their child macdonalds on a regular bases, secondly getting up at 5.30 is normal, going to bed at 8pm is normal and being tired at night and wanting to go to sleep is NORMAL. Get a parents guide and do your kid a favour, try less sugar and more vegetables durrrrr ! Oh it breaks my heart when he is not well...then why don't you look after him properly ?

At first my feelings were kind of hurt but I decided to just erase the nasty message and go on about my business. Then moments later I find a Google Alert that indicates that Anonymous is not so Anonymous and she has posted about me on her blog.

I just don't even know what to say. Why be so nasty. I have never been nasty to anyone on the blogosphere. I don't even know who she is.

So, here is my response:
No I don't feed my son McDonald's on a regular bases. Just because I say I am shocked he turned it down doesn't mean he eats there all the time. It's a TREAT!!! Did you read the post?

Next getting up at 5:30 a.m. is not normal for my child. He has always been a late sleeper, sleeping until 7:00 a.m.

Again, did you read the post because I did not say that going to bed at 8pm was early. I'd of been fine with 8 p.m. but he feel asleep at 6:30 p.m.

As far as eating healthy, this boy eats more veggies and fruit than any child I know that is his age.

I don't even know why I am giving you the time of day but please take your nasty comments and inaccurate opinions elsewhere.

Thanks, the management
